I've just traded my daytona for a new sprint st. A good move I think especially since I'd like to do more touring. The panniers and riding position certainly comes in handy.

Don't do it unless you have to stick with the Daytona it's a lot better bike to ride than the 1050 ST.
I wish I'd kept my Daytona prefered it to the ST in every way mainly the handling the ST's not a patch on the Daytona when pushed hard.
I had to change as the wife was finding the pillion hard work due to her advancing years I hope she doesn't read this
I realy bonded with the Daytona almost felt part of you where as the ST feles dead.
Don't get me wrong it's a very good bike and does all that you ask of it but it's no Daytona despite all the press blurb at launch time.
Before you buy arrange for a long test ride a day or more.
I want my tona back DSSA in Acid Yellowbest bike I ever owned.

I can agree totally with what Barney said.

Tried one and initially I found it really nice but by the end of the day I found that there was a limit to the handling which limits the making progress bit.

I know what you guys are saying. The bikes only got 5k on the clock. fitted with sat nav and intercom. Gillies adjustable risers etc...so realy already geared up as a good tourer, going to put on a ventura luggage system next if I keep it.

I am really attached to the bike also, the main reason for changing is for better riding position, but there again I prob have not ridden it enough. Though did a trip to London on it in May, 300 wiles each way..was knackered afterwards.....hmmm will think some more

If your bike is already like that then you will probably really like the ST.

I bought mine simply because it has a much more comfortable riding position than my old 2002 Sprint.

It's more of a real world bike than the Daytona. Still quick enough to embarrass so called sports bikes on the road as well.

Traded in 955 for ST 1050 ST more touring based than sports, but wrists still hurt after 200 mile plus. Build quality a bit iffyon my ST compared to Daytona.

i did the same change

i went from a 02 daytona with loads of modifications etc to a 07 sprint st and the st is no match for the daytona in performance but that is why it is a aports / tourer. the riding position is much better and great for long tours as apposed to the daytona. do miss the daytona but more than happy with the sprint, has also helped me to not go so fast all of the time !!

I have just made the same change. Loved the Daytona but found on long tours it was just so uncomfortable (Misano GP 07).
Found the Sprint to be so much more comfy, but word of warning. If your partner is short in the leg as mine is , she is only 5 foot tall, then the passenger position is hopeless. Her feet only just reached the footrests and the luggage racks caused discomfort in her legs and even after removing them the bodywork still hurt her legs. The only cure was to fit speed triple pillion foot pegs and this cured it, but now the luggage is of no use.

I've got a 955 Daytona and I'm just about to buy a 1050 Sprint because I want something more suitable for touring. The Daytona is fast and agile but it kills my wrists. I tried a 1050 Tiger but it was too tall and wasn't what I was looking for so then I rode the 1050 Sprint. As soon as I'd done a couple of miles I liked it. The ST feels absolutely excellent and I think I'll go for it. I toyed with the idea of part exchanging the Daytona but I'm not going to as a) it's just so beautiful, b) trade value is so low there doesn't seem much point and c) I think I'll still enjoy the Daytona when I want to go hooning.
I've not bought a Sprint yet but the test rides have shown me that it's a great Sports Tourer. A lovely, comfortable ride but you can wind it up anytime you like. And my wife found it very comfortable on the back. We used to have an old 900 Sprint and she said that her head was always being pushed back as she sat so high above me and that hurt her neck. She didn't feel that on the 1050 so the airflow must be improved. She's about 5' 3" (I think) and said it was very comfortable with or without the panniers in place.

I switched from a 2000 955i Daytona to a 2006 Sprint in April 2008.

Oh joy. I can ride for three hours, bladder and petrol permitting, on the Sprint. Just did 1300 miles in France, including 9+ hours hacking down the side roads to the south.

After an hour or less on the Daytona I just had to stop - my knees/hips would lock up.

Yes it's not as nimble but it's also 6 years younger and a lot less miles with a bigger motor. I was surprised by how nicely it turns in, and realised my old lovely 'tona had degraded over the years.

A pillion is 100% more comftable and whilst riding does suffer, no where near the same as the 'tona would with 2 up.

I'd happily have something more nippy for town/short rides, but as a compromise it's not bad.

If yo do Sunday blasts and can cope with the sports position, stick with a 'tona - get thee a new spring, re-oil the forks. If it's for longer rides, more comfort, enough oommph to please, touring, 2 up then the Sprint is mint.

yup I know...plus the thing has only got 5k on the clock and is in mint condition (04 plate). Got gillies risers on it, so riding position is more real world, double bubble screen to compensate, and gel seat..which is of no real benefit hope the airhawk works as good as they say..will have to figure which one I need first though

Course I'm thinking about a new bike for next year but then again that's all I can do

I've just sold my 2000 955i as it was just getting to hard on my shoulders and neck on a run. The Sprint is a lot kinder to my body.

The cushion is inflatable which you can adjust, so I would say between 1/2 & 1 inch.
