While out last weekend I was sweating buckets, and was wondering if some sort of cooler jacket (perforated), would make much difference? I don’t want to shell out hard earned cash if they are only slightly better.

So the question is, are perforated ones much cooler than standard jackets? And if so, any recommendations?

Mesh is the way to go. I bought a HG Mesh in '06, cost about £115 - brilliant. The temp needs to be in the 20s though or you'll freeze!

Hardly wore it at all last year but have been riding in it this week.

If you want a bargain (and you don't mind blue or red) have a look at these:

I paid full price for mine a while ago and I like it a lot. They take Knox back inserts and the connecting zips are compatible with Triumph trousers.

Tanks guys.... I'd never thought of looking at mesh jackets before. Snooping around on the internet, a company called Rev'It seems to get good comments.
Has any one got one?

I've got the Triumph Retro Jacket the corda one its got vent zips in the upper arms and back, you can also take out the lining seems to be a good compromise.
Cool on a hot day and shower proof if it gets nippy you can pop the lining back in.
Safe as well armour elbows and shoulders with a pocket for a back protector.

[edited]:

i have a REVit jacket and i wear the piss out of it. fantastic jacket. i think it's the bee's knees

it is designed to keep ya cool but also to keep from gettin' dehydrated while out on longer rides. has a full complement of armor in it and a rain and windproof liner that pulls out in seconds and reinstalls in not much longer.

i wear mine to work in 50F degree weather with just a t-shirt on and pull the liner out to go home very comfortably. the liner goes into a pocket in the back inside the jacket. easy to wash too, no soap because it will strip the rain proofing coating from the fabric, just jump in the shower with it and rinse really good and hang to dry.

fits well around the neck and adjusts to it, straps tight around the wrists if you have gauntlet style gloves or fits over gloves.

in my opinion it's worth every penny. the folks a REVit know what thier doing.

Ian, can't complain about the Frank Thomas textile one I bought last year. Loads of options with the liners and comes with armour. Lots of pockets and vents - cool in summer warm in winter and hasn't let any water in. Cost about £130 and the quality seems good (I can only speak as I find, others say FT quality is crap).
Not fallen off yet though to really test it.

I've got a Joe Rocket Pheonix suit, very cool even in Texas!!!

Also have a Tekinic supervent...great suit but maybe OK in UK up to 85F and low humidity but get over 90F and 50% humidity and it's better then not mesh..ut Joe rocket is cooler

Triumph mesh suit is good too, perfect for Europe and great quality, but not as cool as joe rocket stuff when the going gets tough

Well I also purchased a Rev-It air jacket. And since then we've not had a hot weekend! Took it out on an 'average' temperature day (about 17c) and it was damb cold! But I would think it will be ideal on hot days if we get any!
