Evening all, just done the rear ride height mod and the difference is amazing! cornering precision is ten times better. By the way, anyone thinking of drilling new holes should just remove the link and take it to an engineering shop. my 13mm only cost £16!! a spot on job and it will be as strong and smooth as before. THE PROBLEM. I am only 11 stone (70kg), and have found the increase in rising rate severe. A blast round some local roads revealed a real solid rear end. I need to find a SOFTER rear spring (sounds lame I know), so that the bike can absorb some bumps again, instesd of kicking me in the arse every time. Its a rear handfull if ya hit a big bump mid corner. The front too soft and the back too hard = sponge-bang- twictch- sair arse!! Any Ideas? do any other suitable triumph springs have a softer rate?? or any companies you know of supply them??

Count, check your linkages aren't siezed before you think about re-springing; they are very prone to it. (sorry if I'm stating the obvious). Tou can then either go aftermarket (quite expensive) or try these chaps K-Tech Suspension Ltd Unit 1 Coalville LE67 3JY Tel: 01530 810625. They can rebuild OEM Triumph shocks and I think thay can change the spring too. I had mine rebuilt; good service.

Also try altering the compression and rebound setting on the rear shock, if it makes no difference your linkages are seized, guess how I found that out

Ok, the links are all free and well greased, and the comp was wound right off. still way too hard. So, I got 10kg an strapped it in the rear seat space an went for a ride. The difference was instantly noticable, a good bit more compliant. Guess I need too eat mair pies and drink mair beers! or get a softer spring. I figure if standard is 12.1kg, then an 11 to 11.3 sould do.

Demon tweeks have replacment rear springs in thier cataloge . They seem to work on size strength & length so you might find some thing in there to fit

The Count: Ok, the links are all free and well greased, and the comp was wound right off. still way too hard. | Really? I'm surprised. I'm certain the S3 was fitted with the same rear shock as my dayto and I have loads of adjustment on both Comp and rebound. N.B. I do weigh a bit more than you N.N.B. "A bit" in this context may mean "a fuck of a lot"

I have the same problem...I had my rear spring serviced and re-valved/re-sprung by Maxton to suit my weight which meant a heavier spring for my lardy arse. But now that i have shortened the rear drag link to raise the rear, the rear has become as hard as a school boy with his first porno mag.......

The Count, Back when dirt bikes started using 'lay down' shocks (showing my age here) for more rear wheel travel, spring rates started to go sky high to cope. As the shock goes more vertical to raise the rear, spring rate needs to decrease, in particular with single rate springs. Brad

Cheers for the history Brad!! I had a dt250 back in the day for a field hack, great fun!! It was even made the year I was born!! spooky. Manny, you could go to K-Tech and get an 11kg Daytona 675 spring. The figures suggest that it is a bit small, but trust me, it WILL fit! Gentle persuasion is needed fot the collar at the bottom though. You will need to wind the preload almost up to max though, as the new spring is 10mm shorter. This aint an ideal fix, but for a total of £85 (including the drag link mod), its a bargain compared to £300+ for a decent shock with ride height adjustment
