The most common mod is up 2 or 3 in the rear.

Some go down 1 at the front but that can cause issues with the rubbing strip in the swingarm

1 down on the front and one up on the rear stops the swingarm issue.

i went up 2 on the back. not to extreme but a deffinate improvement. plus going bigger on the back as the bonus of shortening the wheel base

its also said that keeping the slightly bigger cog on the front is better cause a 18t sprocket is more round than a 17 and means its smoother for the engine. up to you how much ya read into this as it must only be a tiny amount

On my 02 S3 I went down one on the front and one up on the rear. Has completely transformed the bike. Much better throttle response and driveability out of corners. Can easily match my mates 07 Daytona from standstill up to about 100mph.
One of the best mods I've done to the Speedy.

Hi simon
I thought that speed trips were tuned for more grunt down below and daytonas for top end ? so with dropping gearing do you not whip his ar*e!!

Neon, Don't know for sure regarding the S3, but bike firms for years have produced naked detuned versions of their bikes and have claimed that they have been retuned for low end grunt. From what I have seen this claim is nearly always false.

Hi Neon. I do actually but unbeknownst to my good friend, twofingers, I always keep a little throttle in reserve. Just so he doesn't feel too demoralised and realise he's wasted his money on a 'tona rather than invested it in an S3. But if I did give it full throttle then indeedy he would have to kiss MY ass.
Cue response from aggrieved yellow 'tona owner..............

On a positive note I will say at least when you give it full throttle, it doesn't have a habit of dropping valves like some of your previous ones!............. Maybe there is something to be said for having a detuned bike

You're right. Top speed doesn't mean a thing if you can't use it before tyhe next corner!
