Riding home on the Trumpet today, I get 100 yds from home and stop at a pedestrian crossing. The lights turn green and I pull away and run over a small piece of wood that then turns on its end and punches a fookin great hole in the sump of the engine.Putoline then goes all over the rear tyre and then spins up nearly binning me off. I pulls in the drive and I think I have a puncture, park the bike on the patio only for the remainder of the oil to pi$$ out all over the place. Missus goes mad, I rolls the bike back and runs the front tyre thro the oil. I now have 1 Speed Triple with a bosted sump and a resonable pair of tyres soaked in fookin oil. A sump is £230 from Triumph and a pair of BT014's £150. Been better (read.....cheaper) to get a taxi to work for the 50 mile trip. Got the bit of wood tho' Man, I'm pi$$ed!

Try Sandy at Triumphant, I`m sure he will try to assist, on the sump Burn or chop the wood, or hit with a bloody great hammer, wont fix the problem but you will feel better about it afterwards. And thank whoever your god is, that you are in 1 piece.

Cor, that's some bad luck. Wash the oil off the tyres with lots of warm soapy water rather than leave it for after the sump... oil can do nasty things to rubber... --Rich

I know what you mean, if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. A couple of years ago I had just put on a new set of Michelins. First trip out we stopped for some eats and I notice there's something sticking out of my nice new rear tire. Apparently it was a four inch piece of welding rod I'd picked up. At least it was a saturday and there was a parts store close buy. Had to put a plug in the tire to get home. Not as bad as tearing up sump pan though. Good luck with the repair.

My fuel line split yesterday.Didn't notice as the wind was up and thought that was it(the sliding).Rode the bike for another 20 miles or so and then felt my right leg getting cold and wet.Stopped and had a look...............well bugger at least it was not on fire.

Hi Andy, What an ars* of a thing to happen! Tip to make the missus a little bit less mad... Go down to your local diy store and get some oil-spill detergent. I think it's made for preparing garage floors before painting, but it should work on your driveway. it'll also stop you binning it the next time you stop on it in the rain! F

had the same-ish thing in march. chain snapped on the 675, punched thru the crankcase, and snapped an engine bolt off. so... cleaned and degreased the crankcase, and fabricated & stuck on an alloy plate with loctite alloy weld. washed and scrubbed the rear tyre with neat wash-up liquid. all was fine. total repair bill.. £14 for loctite, £7 for engine bolt. (plus new chain + sprockets.) and 2 track days and 3,000 miles later, all is fine. i would recommend welding if possible though.

Scrubbed the tyres and they are knackered, all slimy and waxy. Got a Bt012 SS for the back but it's a 180 section. Read spomewhere that it will be OK, what you think? 180 or get a proper 190????

Aluminium welding. I used this material yesterday and was suitably impressed. I had the aluminium casting that supports the mirrors and headlamp on the Sprint ST broken in 3 places, a real tricky job with the MIG as it's so thin in places and alloy is a shit at the best of times. So I was recommended to try this product. Fecking excellent! In application it is more like soldering, you need to be real careful with the heat, (just as you would building up normal solder), I can't see any reason why you couldn't repair a busted sump with it. http://www.durafix.co.uk/ Checkout the videos on the site.

"Got a Bt012 SS for the back but it's a 180 section. Read spomewhere that it will be OK, what you think? 180 or get a proper 190????" Andy Holmes Technically you want a 190-50, but in application a 180-55 will work just fine. I have a 180-55 on the T595 and one benefit is that the speedo is a bit more accurate. Since X-Man went down when he grounded his primary tube (I get that right, Tony?) I think a 190-55 would be an excellant rear tire size. Brad

Right boys, just bought a sump off a 2004 engine and its different. So............................................... Who has an 'early' sump lying about (Sandy doesn't- Boo)? Who needs a sump for a 'late' engine? Got one spare.

Andy, did you have a look at the Durafix link above? Bloody good stuff, when repaired would be stronger than the original sump. If you can't find a sump or don't feel you're up to it, send me the sump and I'll weld it. Would only cost you the postage and the materials.

King Key, that will be cool if you can weld it! Send me your details via E-mail and I'll post it to you. Would prefer a weld to 'plastic metal' to be honest, but would prefer a new sump but cheap!! Cheers Dude. I love this forum!

Andy , here in the u.s.a. there is a product called ..."motsenbocker's lift off" it removes adhesives, grease and oil stains and motor oil , if you can find something simular take a small towel and soak it in the stuff , then wipe down your tires and then use a green scrubbie or steel wool. I use it when ever i put on new tires to remove that coating they use to protect the tires in transit. should work. A bottle of 22 oz goes for about $8.00 u.s. cheaper then all new rubber. this stuff works great on rims etc. too . good luck.
