Daytona 955i (04->)

24 Sep 2008 09:31
Folks,

Fresh to the forum but would appreicate some advice on exhaust cans. I've got a 05 955i Daytona which is absolutely standard which has kept me amused. Only thing I would like to do is liberate a little of that throaty burble that the factory can undoubtedly stiffle.

I don't want to fit a race can or grind out the baffles in the factory one just something that aurally works. Any ideas?

cheers

Ocorfe

Hi Ocorfe

Can't do much better than Triumph's own cans IMHO. There are several for sale on Ebay, plus some none Triumph items too

"Can't do much better than Triumph's own cans IMHO" Ditto
High level will give a littl bit more torque than low level but IMHO new Daytonas are more about free revving and I'd go for low- You will need to be careful about getting the right one though as IIRC pipe size is different on later...

The low level can works better than the hi-level.

MTC exhausts made one for me a while back they will make one as load or quite as you like & colour code it to your bike if you want . That said the triple engine is a bit like a twin in that the engine note isnt that offensive even with a race can . If to click on my pic you can see how small the can on mine is . Ive inserted a viper after market baffle & polished out the not for road use stamp on it & it passes its MOT each year no probs so let there be noise

Actually on the dyno we find the high gives a bit more mid than the low due to the longer secondary pipe - it's only about 1.8 bhp in the mid range but it is there...

Take a look at www.trident-exhausts.com - high, low, stubby and under the seat exhausts specifically for the Daytona.

Cheers all for the threads, gives me something to start looking into. I'm off to sea soon and hopefully the cash will have built up enough to see me into some more aurally pleasing sounds for the Daytona. I did look into the Trident cans as I read an article about them doing a set of triple cans under the seat similar to the MV F4 for Sprints. Not sure about the under seat version for the Daytona, perhaps it is some thing you need to see in the flesh, so to speak.

Guy G - your can is quite tiny in comparison to the mammoth factory fitted to mine. Also Trumpet Major's links showed some more of MTC's work. Until today can't say I've seen/heard of them. Best I go trawl the internet for them soon.

Cheers all

and to think asked you a similar question about this a while back Peter, being that you are our 'resident' 'zorst expert, and you told me pipe length made not much difference these days.

Re:
In the olden days (pre 00's !!) was it not taught that a longer pipe gave mid range and a shorter one more top end?< my original question, along those lines!

Hi Mark the can on mine is 12 inches but I have cut back the pipes too where the 3 meet in to 1 then made up my own link pipe so that the silencer tucks in nice & neat . The hole system is now only as long as the 3 in to 1 part of the original

No problems with heat from it as the packing in the silencer stops the main body of the can from getting hot however as I learned dont touch the end of the out let as with it being so close to the engine it gets bloody hot .lol
