Speed Triple 955i (99-01)

I took my bike for it's ITV (the Spanish equivalent to an M.O.T) this morning and it passed!
The reason for my surprise isn't because I own a neglected dog of a bike; it's a lovingly looked-after, regularly serviced beauty! The problem is when it was returned to me the engine was still running and the chap who carried out the checks couldn't turn the engine off because every time he tried the starter motor came on automatically. It didn't matter what we did - kill switch, keys out of the ignition - the starter refused to disengage.
Still, I left with my pass certificate and green sticker feeling slightly confused. Surely a bike that refuses to cut out until the battery is disconnected should be deemed as a slight menace to its owner and society!
It's now at Triumph Barcalona. Has anyone got any ideas?

My second T595 thread has been reduced to a series of puns by §peêd†riÞ!
Taken where not to apply WD40 on board, but apparently I won't be needing this info just now. My vague Triumph Service centre in BCN says a need a new part - they're non-commital about which part, though! However, I think Red Monkey was on to something with Solenoid. Cheers!

I'm not here that often - so purely a fluke it was me and not the usual culprits

ackshirley, if you follow the flow, it was all CBFS's fault - as ever

Sorry jimmyj but I can't be specific yet. Until Red Monkey put forward the suggestion of 'Solenoid', the very word would have had sci-fi connotations for me. Technical incompetence is my forte, the Spanish language, however, isn't. Coupled together equals one very clueless individual.
All I can tell you for the moment is that I collected the bike on Friday with a few wires disconnected here and there. I was told that it was a temporary solution and they couldn't guarantee it. The new, unknown part is on order and should be here within 15 days. The receptionist wasn't specific, and the mechanics tend to hide from me when I'm there; they've had a few nonsensical conversations with me before!
So, once I am billed for the final repair I'll let you know. Which reminds me, I forgot to ask how much this would... Oh fuck!

If anyone is still following this thread, a new solenoid is the solution to my problem. So the prize goes to the Red Monkey!
Thanks!, I now know what a solenoid is, and your pointer helped me follow my Spanish mechanic... sort of.

I was taken back to my days of having a Mkii Escort and having a series of starter motors with dodgy solenoids which required shorting with a screwdriver or even having to crawl under the car and whack the bastard with a hammer

El precio Sr. jimmyj és 150.67 euros. That's 50.45 for the solenoid, and the rest on labour and V.A.T. For me, it's a trifling price to pay for my ignorance and technical ineptiude.
How I wished I believed myself!
