Went on a trip to Yorkshire last weekend with tail pack strapped to the little sports rack. When I got there, the pack had melted through where it's in contact with the rearmost rung of the rack and my jeans inside the pack were hot as if They'd just been ironed.
Was this just because it was a very cheap and nasty tailpack or have others experienced this?

Perhaps you're too tight to buy proper luggage?

Sounds like it may be the heat from the exhaust causing the melting.

Was the rack itself hot ?

Too hot to touch. Not ideal, putting plastic/nylon luggage just above those three burbling pipes. The bag was standing up by itself when I left South Wales. When I got to Yorkshire it had sort of flopped over the back, like an old vinyl LP left on a radiator.
Had great fun though, first time on the Sprint on the A483 Llandrindod Wells to Newtown and later on the A59 to Harrogate.

A483 possibly the best road in southern Britain?

I went through Llandrindod about 2.15pm last Friday. That wasn't you on the impressively ridden oldish jap sportsbike (poss YZF) that passed me as I was leaving town was it?

I've had the same problem - I have the triumph rack and several bungies have melted. You have to learn not to use bungies or leave anything on that last bar closest to the pipes.

I hate paniers - i know I'd forget and loose them when filtering, which is everyday in London.

If you search threads you'll see discussion on lengthing the tailpipes with stock items from bling-bling car custom suppliers.

Melting luggage

Or get rid of the ridiculously heavy heat sink underneath your seat aka Triumph standard exhaust and replace it with a Two Brothers racing system.

Gets rid of 80% of the weight, 80% of the heat, the truly awful rear end design and sounds fantastic. Expensive yes, worth it, Definitely.
