Do they get better with age? I did a bike comparison the other night with my mates sprint. Mine is an 07 bike with a genuine 7k on the clock, his is an 05 with 14k on the clock. His bike was definately smoother in shifting up to first and second and the same going down. On the downside the 05 bike has loads of front brake lever travel before it bites, but they still work as well as mine.

I have an 06 with 12,000 miles and the gearchange is nice and smooth, smoother than my Fazer 1000 was anyway. Re front brake lever, mechanic replaced the brake fluid at the 12,000 mile service. What a difference, solid feel at the lever, much firmer braking again. I didn't realise how spongy it had gone as I suppose it happens quite gradually

Blimey, I had a Fazer 1000 (03 bike) before the Sprint and the triumph gearbox isn't a patch on the yamaha one?

Why are you asking? It's a Triumph.

I'm not entirely sure they do get better with age. Mine is almost up to 36000mls and it still clunks when going in from neutral and clunks from 1st to 2nd. Chain tension is very important. I had a Fazer Thou' before this and it was a much sweeter box.

After a somewhat spirited 180 mile ride around the Brecon Beacons and Wye Valley yesterday the gearbox felt a lot smoother, it definately changes up easier when you are making progress
