Any takers for croissants and coffee, or perhaps a blue collar cafe in Brighton?

Kids all weekend apart from having the mother of all imports running since Friday evening at work. Thanks to some cretin who decided when it was due the chap actually doing the project is now on holiday and muggins is having to babysit the job remotely. On the plus side next weekend is completely free, no kids, gf on hols looking forward to having some nice rides....so expect the weather to be rather like last summer from Friday to Monday.

| Never a truer word spoken, Mike. The man's left a trail a cave fish could follow. My contacts alerted me to a posting on a certain 'exotic' forum made by him at 12:23 PM today. I'm saying nothing - but it could get messy...

Problem is I swing both ways, Triumph & a well known Italian brand ( no not that way ) so I caught him red handed asking questions as to whether said Italian brand would be " comfy for touring ". What is the punishment for desertion?

mike gilbert: I caught him red handed asking questions as to whether said Italian brand would be " comfy for touring ". :
| I particulalry liked this response to DCE's question: "(Mystery Italian brand) are more comfortable than sitting on a spike but that's about it." That said I did 3,000 miles (including Alps/Pyrenees) with a 6' 2" chap on the smaller engined of the the mystery Italian brand that DCE is after, and he was fine. He did recommend using a tank bag large enough to be able to rest the upper body on from time to time though. If you're a hard fucker you can tour on anything, I say - and they don't come much harder than Ethel...

Whilst I am not coming out, so to speak. But in the interest of learning... Mike, what is the, er...let's say er...um. Well, for discussion purposes only what is the 999 like to ride, say long distances ? This being a question that a mate down the pub asked me to research...perhaps. Kinda thing ?

| Absolutely not! Well, not here, anyway. Depth Charge Ethel: in the interest of learning... Mike, what is the, 999 like to ride, say long distances? :
| Haven't you read any of the 17 responses to your posting on the 'other' forum then, Ethel? I have - and most informative they are, too. They're quire a friendly bunch, aren't they? But I've always found such matters to be of a profoundly personal nature. One man's favourite soft sofa is another's pile-punching purgatory, etc. I suggest you do what I did whan I demoed the dark one the other week, and make sure you take it out for a good 70-80 mile thrash. Preferably more. Do remember that it will take a while to adjust and adapt to any new bike that has a different riding position to your current steed - and do bear in mind that, hard as fuck as you are, you're still recovering from fairly major surgery. I'm sure you have thought about all this and more, so I'll shut the fuck up now....

Good morning DCE. Not bad comfort wise. Most I did on a Tona was 350 miles in a day and I reckon the 999 is about as comfy. Wrists are the only bits that give me grief. Leg room's not bad I'm 5' 10". Not sure if I'm honest that I would say it's suitable for touring though. I did buy a TBS when I bought my first 999 as I didn't trust it. I was proved right but I have bought another 999 and that's been fine. I must say that had Triumph done a new Daytona that looks like the 675 I would not have deserted Triumph.

Gents G and Mike. Thanks for your replies. I will be taking a certain bike of a certain colour out for a run this afternoon. Most probably on the fabled South Harting, Petersfield, Midhurst route. So we we will see how my pipe cleaning frame holds up to certain continental design excesses. Ethel

| Excellent - the very same route I used to demo the dark one (except I went onwards to Gilbert White territory, where I paused briefly to curl one off next door to his hallowed former dwelling) and beyond to the sublime roads between Alton and Basingstoke. What time you going on the demo? Let me know and I may sneak off for a ride myself - though I will understand if you wish to be a 'man alone'. (I could wedge you up for services rendered at Scropton though...) mike gilbert: I must say that had Triumph done a new Daytona that looks like the 675 I would not have deserted Triumph.:

Take a mobile phone & your RAC card. Only joking. I'll be interested to see what you think comparing it to a Daytona. Make sure it's a red one though as Yellow's not so quick and the black looks shite. IMHO

Ciao a tutti peeps. Sembra che dopo aver preso il 999s per una coda nel corso degli bassi con i giovani G-san ha avuto un effetto. Sto vedendo le curve di ogni dove. E non sono le signore meraviglioso?

as if more evidence of 'South Coast' syndrome was needed ..... Quote: It seems that after to have taken the 999s for a tail in the course of lows with the young people G-saint has had an effect. I am seeing the curves of every where. And they are not the wonderful gentleman? |
