The reason I asked is there's one in the calendar for this weekend - 21/9 at Petworth. But 5/10 is probably good for me too...

oops... in the hangover recovery period after Goodfest I forgot to post the usual invite. Thanks Sir TonTee

The Stonemasons Arms on a sunny Sunday lunchtime is a pretty good destination, large garden and roast dinners available, its within easy riding distance of most southern softies, just off the (overpoliced) A272, so who is up for it?

I may have to shift around some family commitments but could make it if theres any interest.

I'm going - I fancy the run. Would be good to see you, venerable sir ST. Anyone coming from this end of the region?

Probably not........seems a bit of a trek just for a bite to eat. If it was closer to Newbury I'd do it.

Plenty of sunday drivers, and I bet Rossi Wannabe's out for a thrash around the A272, clogging up the place as a lowly BMW glides past them at 30mph.

I could OF course take the chaps with me - but last time I did that, G got banned from his local.

Bodicus Maximus spied a spaniel 30 feet and 5 tables away across the pub patio.

G, Dolly and I were whisked across to meet said spaniel in the twinkling of an eye and the crashing & smashing of 16 pints and at least 8 Sunday Roasts ....

So I wont be doing that again

One assumed this was an afternoon meet, so one went all the way, all 27 miles of it, to find not ONE motorised bicycle there.
Just one mad bastard on a human powered bicycle.

Still, I went to the Old Station at Petworth, had a mooch around, saw a few other disused railways and stations.
Had a beer on the way back.

58.3 miles in 4 hours isn't bad for an old fart like me. But that hill from South Harting to Uppark is a cunt, almost beat me, but not quite.

On another note, there is a bench next to the pub, with a rock and a plaque to the memory of the Petworth Boys School. Made me feel a bit humble http://www.gravelroots.net/petworth/12.html

What time did you get there, Fret?

I too did get there to find not one motorised bicycle there, but no mad cyclist. I got there about 1515, also assuming an afternoon meet. I'd have been ealier, but I had to pull off the M25 for gazole - to learn fact 2 - Rickmondsworth has NO petrol stations. At all. Took me half an hour to learn that....

Funnily enough, I too then went for a mooch abaht, saw some old shops, which were mostly closed, had a cheese and onion pastie and went home. Got home about an hour ago. My mileage was a little higher, too....

I got there about 13.45-14.00 I guess. Hung around for 10-15 minutes whilst I had a quick bite and then came home.
A glorious afternoon, refilled my water bottles in a pub and it was the type of september day when one wishes that all days were like this as it seemed like yesteryear with friendly smiling people who passed the time of day with you.
Unfortunately it will soon end and be the shitty Britain we all know and hate.
