I don't think the Boxster belongs in there : that's about jealousy and perceptions. The Touareg is no beauty but I've seen worse The Vel Satis was innovative The Twingo was funky Who puts these lists together?

The side elevation of the Alfa 166 is one of the most gorgeous designs of the modern age. It's let down by the front end which resembles a depressed frog. [pic=53565]

I dont cream in my pants over a Porsche Boxster but it`s hardly `ugly`. As RM said, the Toureg isn`t a beautiful car by any means but it`s ok in a modern SUV way (plenty worse). I dont think the old Renault 4 belongs in there either...that was an innovative car in many ways and like the 2CV, mobilised many of the French working class in the 60`s, much as the Mini did here. It has a kind of `functional` style. Totally agree about the Evo X tho`, looks like someone was given too many `Halfords` Xmas vouchers... (maybe that`s what the `X` means).

Today's instalment
http://www.telegraph.co.u...../27/mfcars3.xml 58 - Honda Element. That's not ugly....it's just different in the same way that Nissan Cube is, which is a funky little town car 56 - 2CV. Not pretty but it's a style icon 55 - Chrysler 300c......no, it's just a big butch car. I like them 49 - Renault Fuego. Very dated, but a nice looking car in its day. 45 - Hillman Imp. Nah......not ugly, just boxy.

There's a lot of cars in there that are not ugly : clearly the list has been compiled by motoring fascists. My pet hate is Porsche Cayennes, not because they're ugly but because I detest everything the represent i.e. monied tossers and their wives who want a 4x4 so they can feel superior to everyone as they look down on them but don't even have the good taste to buy a Range Rover.

I like RRs but I wouldn't want to own one I like the image, the real off road ability, the air of quality........but I couldn't live with the depreciation, running costs and apparent unreliabgility.

Oh yes, lots of tossers in RRs Oh, and I've reached a stage where cars just don't really turn me on.......most of them ARE status symbols. I'd rather spend some money on the house, stick it away for a rainy day etc. cars are just depreciating "assets". That's why I'll stick with the SAAB until it dies as it costs me nothing in real terms.

Not even mildly entertaining (How the fuck they thought they should stick the Alfa SZ in there I have no idea.) twats

Don't really understand this. A car is a practical device for transporting people and goods,it's remit is to be functional, safe and economical. It has no more need to be aesthetically pleasing than a washing machine or a freezer. The same applies,to a lesser extent ,to a motorcycle. What it looks like is irrelevant, the rider cannot see it (except when passing shop windows ,natch). Indeed an unusual or 'custom' bike is a liabilty. One is constantly being asked the same stupid questions 'is it a Spondon frame' 'is it a racing sidecar outfit'. Be anonomous like a ninja and go softly into the night .....
