At the risk of much ridicule, can some one explain the switch positions for the heated grips, I get hot or hot with no difference as far as I can tell. I had a Tiger for a couple of days last week and they were exactly the same.

If the switch is all the way forward that's supposed to be Very Hot

Middle - Off

Back towards you - not so hot

I get the impression that you start with the switch all the way forward to get the grips up to temp and then move the switch all the way back to normal temp.

If you ask me, the positions are:

1) Forward - kind of warmish, but not so as they make much difference on a really cold day in January (best get electric gloves)
2) Backwards - Why bother

Not as pokey as BM grips, thats for sure.

Thanks guys
Last night was only the second time I've used them in anger and I was concentrating on where I was going (in the dark) I'll see how they work with thinner gloves. The ones on the loan Tiger did seem a lot hotter regardless of the switch position, aren't they the same grips?

I have Triumph OEM heated grips and find that the "low" setting is hot (sometimes too hot)

Not tried the "high" setting.

I wear summer gloves all year and roast my palms as I hate the restrictiveness of full winter gloves.

One day I'll measure the current draw and post it. I did promise the guys on Bikers Oracle that I'd measure the power rating one day...

Oxford heated grips. £29.99.
Used for 5 years now on 3 different bikes. Variable temp setting from "mm, toasty" to "Fuck that's hot"

I can't see how they can charge £130

The heated grips on my Sprint are crap (Triumph genuine ones), simply don't get hot enough, the ones on my 955i were fantastic (Daytona brand name).

I have the Triumph heated grips on my Tiger 955i.
Excelent bit of kit.
The instalation is very neat - the only thing you can see is the switch on the rairing panel.
I normaly only use the high setting for the first couple of minutes to get things started, if I use it at all.
The low setting is OK down to a couple of degrees of frost.

'Agree with Fret, I paid for the genuine Triumph heated grips when I got my new ST and they are not anywhere near as warm as a pair of Oxford grips I fitted to me old (900) Sprint. Mind you, the Oxford ones were not as good in terms of lasting. I had to take the controller back before even fitting it as it simply didn't work (straight out of the box). OK, the dealer swapped that part straight away BUT less than a year later the controller stopped working again.
The Triumph ones do work, but not very well. They simply don't get hot enough.
To get back to the original question: Rig and Richard Barlow are right.

Oxford hot hands, wrap over grips, I have 'em on my RS........

Couriers favourite, good enough to go through the winter with fingerless gloves,
take it from an expert.........me..........can't be beat, take em off in the summer

Job's a good 'un.............

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/heated-motorcycle-grips/

Al my courier mates in the UK still use 'em.....and if a tight arse, wallet welded courier recommends 'em, they MUST be good!!!!!
