Sorry for the cheap approach at grabbing your attention but the offer stands if I can make it happen
I have finally got my visa to come and live and work anywhere in Australia. Which I am truly happy about.
Problem is I need to secure a job in Oz first(So that I can afford to buy me a new Speed 3 when I get there).
I am a registered Mental Health Nurse and I work in the drug/alcohol, substance misused field.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW BEST I CAN FIND WORK IN THAT FIELD ANYWHERE IN OZ?

I have registered with seek.co.au with limited success
I would really appreciate any guidance on this and any help will hopefully be rewarded with cold beers.

Can't wait to get playing on a Speedy in Oz and meet up with some of you lot over there. Specially Jockney rebel so I can try and blag a shot on his Speedy and remind him how 'kin wet and cold Scotland is.
Thanks in advance for the help. Think I'll pop out for a whaz on my Speedy for a bit cause I've got new brake pads and lowered gearing to put a smile on me mug

Are you kidding, this is the home of drug’s and alcohol, you will fit like a glove, just don’t use white socks with your sandals if your selling drugs to the kids, they would think your a cop and you will get no sales!!!

Seriously your trade is in demand here, the health service is always advertising for workers. The private sector has taken most of the trained staff from the National Health Service; you will walk into a job over night with no problems.

I’m in Adelaide; it’s a great place to live.

Piss Easy

Simon -

mate, up until recently I worked for mental health services in Canberra. Believe me, there are a shitload of jobs for RNs, here in Aus, especially for Mental Health trained nurses. Back in Canberra, they were that short on RNs that in the acute ward they were able to name their terms and shifts. Canberra is okay except that it's a bit of a boring, bland shit hole. Weather wise, it's like a mild english winter except for a serious lack of rain (still in drought if I recall).
You say that you specialise in Drug and Alcohol, there's vacancies for that too. Most Alcohol and Drug rehab places are run by private/Non Govt Organisations. That said, you virtually have your pick of states, as there are serious shortages for mental health nurses nationwide. Once you're in you'll easily find the opportunities to get back into alcohol and drug work.

- as you'll see from the links, they're after alot of older persons mental health nurses, but they also want mainstream mental health. Try the different Mental Health services with each state. You're bound to get a bite. Vic, SA, Qld and NSW all have good motorcycling roads. Take your pick.

I'd happily live in SA or Qld. NSW is where I'm at and I'm an hour and half from Sydney, and 40 minutes from Putty Road, an awesome stretch of motorcycling roads, aswell as hunter vineyards. The Adelaide hills are awesome too. I rate them both. I quite like Vic, however I personally refrain from living there as I my past trips to SA involved some unresolved interactions with Vic Pol highway patrol. Aside from that, they've got some lovely mountain roads I sampled on the way to Phillip Island this year.

hope this helps.

Cheers,

Triston.

P.S. If you've got any other questions, I'm sure we'll try to help.

Hi guys

Thanks for the replies.

Steve. Adelaide is my preferred 1st choice, due partly to the Central market, the fact that the Wine makers HQ is there, the Clipsal 500 races and The , apparently fabulous vineyards to the North. Hope all those comments are accurate.

TJ. Ab...so...fuckin..lutely excellent. Those links are exactly what I was looking for. Thinks I'm going to be busy over the weekend.
Comments like, walk right in, take your pick are all very encouraging.
Thankyou both again for those comments. Sitting here in front of a 'pooter screen in the far North of Scotland it all seems a bit unreal so comments from "those who know" are great.
By the by, just got the offer of a telephone interview for a job in a place called Queanbeyan !?
So looks like the ball is beginning to roll.
Any further info will always be welcome and appreciated. Off for a couple of beers now

No Worries Simon,

Queanbeyan - That's right next to Canberra, directly across the border into NSW. It's kind of a BIG country town next door to the nation's capital city. Interesting place to visit. Some nice cafes and pubs... To be honest, I'd pick Adelaide over Queanbeyan. This exercise should atleast get you a good knowledge of Australian geography, as you check on maps the locations of these places.

now it's time fo me to get into some beers.

Cheers,

Triston.
