Anyone riding a Daytona (or any other sports bike come to think of it) with a flip-front lid? Am looking at a new helmet and thinking of going down this route as I wear glasses but they look a bit bulkier than 'normal' lid and I'm wondering what the visibility's like when you're already spending alot of time looking through the top part of the visor from the riding position.

Why not wear a flip front lid on a sports bike? Is there a rule or law that says you MUST wear a full face?

nope, providing I can still shoulder check without compromising visibility. It's not a style-thing, more a practicality - they 'look' bulkier than a full face from the outside, but I've never tried one.

Did 2000 miles, mostly thunderstorms, from NY> Chicago and back again, Nolan N102 Flip..........was ok, a flip will NEVER be as quiet as a full face lid....but either you are already deaf, or should have earplugs anyway....flip down/up external visor was tested at 147 GPS MPH, worked good!!!! I would of felt a bit safer in my AGV, but the Nolan was a good, albeit nosier second!!!! Try them on......apparantly F -fronts don't have much 'beak room' and mine is moderately big, no problems with the N102, it DOES sit quite a bit higher at the neck.......but this has improved over the miles......

I am really coming round to these things but there still seems to be a lot of prejudice against them possibly because there's a lot of cheap ones out there. Having owned an Arai RX7XX for a number of years I'm considering a Schubeth or Shoei but there just seem to be a lot of "nay sayers" out there with stories of flimsy construction and poor crash results. As for noise......you should try my Arai but then that was a purely race designed lid.

Like a good boy I did do a search in the forums for flip front lids - most of what I found was a couple of years old and not much of it was positive - Caberg's took a bit of a slating. Not sure who makes good ones - do most of the current manufacturers have at least one in their range? Currently I have a Nitro full face - cheap but comfy and I've had no complaints, but then again it's the only lid I've ever had but 4yrs old now so think I can convince the missus it's time for a new 'un.

I'd only look at a Shoei or Schubeth because both have the right credentials

I've ALWAYS been a fan of Nolan............................sister's....!!! and AGV, but the Nolan N102/ 103 get fair write ups......I think a Flip F will ALWAYS feel flimsy compared to an AGV/Shoei /Arai full face.........

I've had a Jutissimo in fact it's my 'spare' Now using a Shoei Multitec which is a bit lighter The Jutissimo inner visor is great too for days when the sun is in & out

Bought A Shoei Multitec recently. Tried the Caberg and Schuberth but they didn't fit me nearly as well. The Multitec is very quiet (compared to my last lid - Arai Condor) and the easiest visor change mechanism I've come across.

I have a Schubeth Concept( Mk1 not 3), wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy, buffets your head terribly to the point that if you're doing 100mhp or so your vision becomes dangerously blurred. To say on their website that it was designed with the assistance of a windtunnel is stretching belief. It is not quiet, earplugs are a necessity, my Roof is far superior in both aerodynamics (doesn't try and rip your head off when looking behind) and volume. How a 'reputable' can make sure a fundamental flaw is beyond me. I've dropped it on the floor a couple of times (rolled off the seat), wasn't at all pissed off as my only thought was it means I'll change it sooner.

I have a Schuberth C2 Flip for the last year. I am very impressed, it is by far the quietest helmet I ever worn, I rarely use ear plugs now it is so quiet. It also has a very clever anti misting setting for the visor which is great for keeping it clear. It is a little heavier than my previous Shoei and HJC but I dont notice it. I still have these but dont use them because the C2 is so much better. I suggest you try one and see if you like it. Clinton

Trouble is,I've only had my S1 for 2 years - it's a fantastic bit of kit & still in perfect condition! Can't really justify a new lid yet!

There seems to be quite a variance in the Db claims for noise across the range.... as the Db scale is logarithmic this means that a 3Db increase is effectively double the noise... so there will be some that are claimed as quiet but are hellish loud in real terms

Sounds like Shoei Multitech or Schuberth summat get the most votes. Will see if I can find somewhere that stocks both and try em on. Cheers for all the input
