I once researched this for use in Aerospace - I think "PJ1" came out tops for temperature resistence etc........

Though, "Ceramic Coatings" (Expensive) - seems the best for "Life!"

Chris - long time ago I used PJ1 and it peeled all over the place which probably only goes to show that prepartion is the key

I've used camcoat. Not for exhausts, they did a low friction molybdenum disulphide coating on my brake caliper pistons (with a thermal barrier coating on the end). Good job, quick turnaround, good price (£5 per piston). I've never encountered the spongy brakes problem everyone goes on about and I reckon it's down to that coating.

Always used PJ1 on my trailies and race bike, then on the Tiger900 and Sprint 900 headers.
Lasted quite well, and had to renew every so often, abiout once every 6 months, which isn't bad.

Bring me the rest of Alfredo Garcia:
[Let us know, I want them to do my TDR pipes if it ever goes any further./quote]

Well they have been on the bike for about 2 weeks now and I am sorry to say the finish is already starting to show signs of failure I have advised Camcoat of this and will see what happens. I know things go wrong which is a pain but happens lets see how it is dealt with. Report to follow.

UPDATE:

Been returned, recoated and sent back ony to start falling off again after a few days! Sent back again and are to be recoated again. Had a very nice e-mail from them explaining that the coating procedure had been changed and in some applications the top coat would powder off once the pipes were put into use. They are going to recoat them the old way and have offered me £30 to cover my postage costs. Fingers crossed a result this time.

Had pipes back about 3 weeks now and they still look as good as the day i fitted them. Think they are sorted this time. Really feel I must recommend Camcoat and especially Peter Carter for his great communication and for seeing me happy. Top bloke!

I painted my pipes on my rd with plasticote BBQ paint from wilkinsons, its about £3.50 a tin and is the bollox as lond as you de-grease them first. They are actually TDR underslung race pipes but work well.

If you want a LONG LONG lasting protection against rust on exhaust pipes, get the metal sprayed and then paint them. I use a local firm in Peterborough. They blast all the crap off and then coat them in a fine layer of aluminium oxide. When the pipes come back the finish is like fine sandpaper. Threads etc are simply masked off as with any spray job. I then paint them using plasticote BBQ paint and thats it for ages. Have had a number of sets of pipes coated. Not that expensive and a really long lasting finish (unless you crash of course lol)
