The easiest of jobs - oil & filter change, Sprint ST. But not when you overtighten the sump plug and crack the sump!

I feel such a prat, too many pies, don't know my own strength!

Has anyone any idea how much a new sump costs and is the replacemet of, a DIY job, or should I cut my losses? Need some help, lying on the garage floor is not an ideal workplace.

Meant to be going touring next weekend , so my wifes not happy either!

The moral is - by a torque wrench.

Yours gutted - Andy Macc

Torque Wrench x2 best money you will spend, save you a packet in the long term. Forget all the bullshit from guys that say they have been spannering for years and do-not need them. I have been tinkering with bikes for 45 yrs+ and the modern bike they are a must

I think it's passed welding, cracked in two places, right on the corner., but thanks for the advice.

Torque wrench - I'm buying one tomorrow, albeit too late.

Thanks fellas, I think I'm going to have to dig deep!

Andy have you searched on here - seems there have been a few sump issues recently & somebody was selling one (not sure which but think it didn't fit his bike after a prob hole!)

I'm sure you haven't, but, just in case, don't forget to order a new sump gasket.

And the torque for the sump bolts is 12 Nm

That's 12N/meter NOT 12N/mile.

Yes I have ordered a new gasket and thanks for the torque figures for the sump bolts.

Got the 'dig' about the 12Nmile!! - I suppose I deserve it!!
