Hi X-Man By all accounts you seem to be the man who can.. I would like to replace the chain and sprockets and would like to go to 18t front 46t rear on my 02 DSSA. Is it right that you dont need special tools when fitting an Afam chain and do you think 108 links would do it? Can you help with this?.... Cheers H

I'l check for you. You DO need a chain rivetter to replace the chain. I'll double check the link length for you at the same time.

Hayden, we can do you steel or alloy rear. Chain length should be standard (106 links).

[edited]:
For some reason they have started making steel ones in the bigger sizes; I don't know why, I am not privy to Afams manufacturing plans...sorry. edited for spelling only to this point. Oh BTW I was surprised as well and asked them to double check.....

Job done!
I finally got around to getting these fitted today.... First impressions are good and after only a short blast ( bloody freezing here and I cant find my winter gloves.. ) I think its a definate improvement over standard. Whilst I wouldnt say the change in gearing has made the acceleration mind blowing, there is definatley a noticable change, mainly to responce at comparable speeds, pick up is smoother and has a more instantaineous feel, someone descibed it as feeling that the bike was lighter..good description. What is a lot better is 2nd gear riding around town, Islands etc seem to be less hassle, the bike seems to be smoother, I guess working a little up the rev range for any particular speed is helping no end. All in all a worth while mod., cant wait for a dry road so I can give her a good workout.. Many thanks to X-Man for sorting out the bits.

Hi Hayden, I went down 1 at the front and up 2 on the rear last year. Also supplied by Unkle Tony & Son Makes about 10% difference (Speedo now at 90/91mph at 6K in top where it was 100mph) Makes the bike brilliant. Feels lighter (strangely) but I am getting a bit more wear on the chain runners on the front of the swing-arm. Not a problem, just will need replacing early, thats all.

Hi Riggsy Yeah, your right about the speedo / rpm difference, must admit I`ve only ever `maxed out` in 6th once or twice so I`am not worried about top end. I will keep an eye on those chain runners though, thanks for the tip..
