Tried one on Saturday and fell in love with it. So light and comfortable, it made the Raid II feel like some market-stall special. Double the price though, at nearly £400! Any bad experiences with these? No suggestions for Arais please - a Shoei head is what I have, and have never found an Arai to fit me properly. Oh, and Caberg, AGV and HJC can do one as well!

The XR-1000 and X-Spirit are very different lids. I found the chinbar of the 1000 to close, like I was kissing the inside of it when I breathed type of close. The X-Spirit, as well as being lighter, had a nicer lining and better overall fit for me. The Raid II actually fits me a lot better than the XR-1000, but not as well as the X-Spirit. Balls to it - I'm going to order one, and a Raid II for the missus

I got pretty much the same deal going through my local dealer as I would have with that lot. Now I've had the X-Spirit for a couple of weeks, it's settled in really nicely - I still get a bit of the pattern of the lining on my face, but it's now so comfy that I forget I've got it on. Dead quiet up to about 60mph with the visor down, and the Pinlock visor insert is probably the greatest invention known to bikers. Pissign down yesterday morning and I could see perfectly - brilliant

Got one about six months ago and love it, very light & comfortable. It's probably a bit noisier than my previous Arai, but with ear-plugs this isn't a problem. Also got it in the Chris Vermeulen replica, which I think goes very nicely with my bike . Oh and as for pinlock visors never had one before now but would never be without one again, they are great!

Pinlock visor Bruce. Told you before washing up liquid polished onto inside of the visor is the future. As an Arai lover I find the thought of a canary yellow Shoei as appealing as choosing a yellow Daytona over a black Speedy. No accounting for individual taste is there?

I would suggest that in order to make a balanced and informed decision you need to have owned both makes Did you ever find the bits that fell off your Arai on our recent trip?

Why the fuck would I want to make a balanced and informed decision? Arais ROCK end of. No I didn't find the bits that fell off my VISOR cause I'm not going to bother. Think I'll just get a dark smoke/tint visor to replace it with. To help cut down the glare from your goodself and mo sickle every time I sneak a backward glance at you Mr H

Does anybody else, beside me, that has got an Arai get really really pissed off every ruddy time those pathetic little plastic hooks break on the side pods, necessitating a replacement pair of pods at nearly thirty ruddy quid a time (for 10pence mouldings...)? I've had my helmet now for maybe 5 years and am about to order the third set of pods to have as spares for when one breaks. Generally great helmet, but the design of that pod fixing really racks me off.. So I will be testing a Shoei next time.

I do love the Shoei visors - less than 20 seconds to swap from dark to clear, both with Pinlock inserts so no fogging ever. And no stupid side-pods to break!

Bought an X Spirit a week after launch. Absolutely the best helmet I've ever owned. Had an RXVII, Shoei XR1000 and a couple of others in my time. Pinlock is great, no misting, ever. Visor is easy to change and the lining pops out easily to clean it. Reasonably quiet as well.
