Daytona T595 (97-98)

My Daytona used to go through batteries faster than I go through socks, but I changed to the gel type about 4 years ago and it was much better. Its now showing signs of fading, and I read somewhere that the next generation of bateries are AGM. Has anyone experience / comments on AGM batteries? I keep it attached to an Optimate when at home, is this still ok with an AGM?

AGM = absorbed 'glass mat It is a sealed battery much like a dry cell design that uses a fiberglass mat material to hold the acid between the battery's metal plates. They have been around for around for quite a while from manufacturers like Odyssey, Deka, Yuasa, and others. I tend to have better experiences with AGM batteries than gel cells over the past 7 years that I have been using them. The Optimate works well with AGM, as do most trickle chargers made for gel cells.

Couple of extra questions then.... The AGM one I was looking at was about £100, double the price of the gel type. Is it worth it? Cus' that's a lota dosh for a battery! Also, searching through T595, it looks like the PC535 is the AGM people have been using, but on on the manufacturers web site, its not that one that's listed as the replacement for the Daytona, and the dimentions look like its too big. Can anyone clear this one up? Thanks guys.

Ian, after wasting my time with the crappy OE wet cell batteries, I got myself one of these from Tayna. AGM and 190 cold cranking amps. Fits straight into a 595 and I haven't been near the bike with the Optimate in over a year. It's a beast. http://www.tayna.co.uk/YTXL-BS-Westco-Motorcycle-Battery-P3386.html

Hi. I bought a Banner AGM battery at the last London bike show. Cost me less than £40 quid. Had no problems with it.

Most aviation Batterys are AGM. The design and manufacture means they are very resistant to sulphation and deep discharge failure, hence the price. " title="http://www.vonwentzel.net/Battery/01.Type/index.html ">http://www.vonwentzel.net/Battery/01.Type/index.html
